According to the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission (SASAC), as of June more than 20 State-owned enterprises (SOEs) under central government administration have released reports on enterprises' social responsibility or on sustainable development, showing progress in undertaking social responsibilities. Centrally-administered SOEs must understand the importance of undertaking social responsibilities, and establish and enhance awareness of their social responsibility to strengthen competitiveness and realize sustainable development, said Huang Shuhe, deputy director of SASAC.

It is said that in recent years centrally-administered SOEs have actively fulfilled their social responsibilities. They implement national macro-control policies, ensure market supply, and promote energy savings and emissions reductions, as well as innovation. What is more, these companies respect the lawful rights and interests of their employees, contributing to social welfare activities such as anti-poverty and assistantship programs. After the Wenchuan earthquake, centrally-administered SOEs had donated 5.953 billion yuan including materials to the earthquake-stricken area.
