According to a dispatch of Workers' Daily from Beijing on June 11 (by correspondents Wang Jiaoping and Ding Junjie), a forum on centralized establishment of trade unions among the world top 500 transnational corporations across China has been held today in Beijing. The forum marks the beginning of the centralized 100-day establishment of trade unions among the world top 500 transnational corporations across China.
The ACFTU Vice Chairman and Secretary of the Secretariat Xu Deming attended the forum and delivered a speech, demanding that trade unions at various levels across China should adapt to present circumstances and tasks, firmly establish political awareness, sense of overall situation, sense of responsibility, positional awareness and awareness of service, fully understand the importance and urgency of furthering the establishment of trade unions among the world top 500 transnational corporations, earnestly enhance the sense of responsibility and sense of mission, seek rapid yet sound and steady development, constantly make new breakthroughs and progress in the establishment of trade unions and make still greater contributions to the protection of workers' legitimate rights and interests, construction of harmonious labor relations .
It is reported that, with the constant advancement of the reform and opening up, China's utilization of foreign investment has ranked second in the world and 483 of the world top 500 enterprises have made investment in China. However, establishment of trade unions is in arrears of the establishment and development of transnational corporations. Currently, the rate of establishment of trade unions in foreign-invested enterprises across China has reached 73.2%, while such a rate among world top 500 transnational corporations in China is less than 50%. With the formulation and implementation of the Labor Contract Law, to promote harmonious labor relations and defend workers' rights and interests imperatively requires the establishment and improvement of trade union organizations in enterprises. Since 2008, the persons in charge from dozens of transnational corporations have come to ACFTU to consult about the establishment of trade unions, showing their aspirations to carry out laws and support the establishment of trade unions by workers.
In order to better serve the establishment of trade unions among transnational corporations, the All-China Federation of Trade Unions has decided that a centralized establishment of trade unions among the world top 500 transnational corporations should be forwarded across China from the first half of June through the end of September and has proposed that by the end of September the rate of establishment of trade unions among the world top 500 transnational corporations across China should reach 80% and above, so as to bring along an all-round establishment of trade unions among non-public enterprises and to provide an organizational guarantee for the lawful protection of workers' rights and interests and for the promotion of harmonious labor relations.
Xu Deming pointed out that furthering the establishment of trade unions among the world top 500 transnational corporations is a specific action for increasing the number of trade unions and enhancing the cohesiveness among trade unions, an immediate need for focusing on priorities, tackling difficult problems and achieving more fruitful results in the establishment of trade unions, as well as an objective requirement for carrying out the Labor Contract Law, bringing about harmonious labor-capital relations and realizing mutual benefit and joint wins between enterprises and workers. He stressed that trade unions at various levels should concentrate their efforts on improving their awareness and understanding, further seeking the unity of thinking and action from the perspective of protecting the ranks of workers , and becoming fully resolved to organize as many workers as possible into trade unions with great efforts; should put in a lot of effort to make important breakthroughs and must achieve practical results by laying emphasis on the regions where headquarters of the transnational corporations and their subordinate corporate organizations gather, so as to bring along the overall establishment of trade unions; should concentrate their efforts on strengthening organization and leadership, establish related special leading bodies to go in for meticulous organization and carry out the responsibilities for a nationwide action and a formation of joint efforts.
Xu Deming demanded that trade unions at various levels should conscientiously carry forward the earthquake-relief spirit, further strengthen the guidance of the superior trade unions over the inferior trade unions, further enhance the construction of the trade union establishment assessment mechanism, continually advance the establishment of trade unions among the world top 500 transnational corporations, organize as many workers as possible into trade unionsĄŁ
